This is a 19th century vintage upright made by the Girard
Piano Company in Philadelphia. The name Girard is very
famous in Philly as the family was previously involved in
the banking industry (Girard Bank is now part of Citizens
Bank NA). The
finish is okay but inside needs a lot of basic repairs
(mostly rods, tuning, and key flats) but the sound is huge
when it is tuned.
It is too big for our house and we have another Tom
Thumb piano that a friend gave us which fits our tiny house
much better. We
love this old piano and would hate to see it chopped up.
